Bobby enjoyed his experience of buying a Shared Ownership home with Peabody
Bobby and Farideh bought a 25% share of their new home with a £50,000 deposit, meaning their monthly mortgage payments are just £500. Adding £1,100 for rent and service charge, their monthly outgoings are no more than they were paying when they were renting.
“We’re here for good and as a family, this feels wonderful. I’d give Peabody New Homes 10/10. Everyone we dealt with was incredibly honest and trustworthy, which I really appreciate. They’re transparent about everything, which made me feel at ease and they’ve built an amazing development at Southmere. The homes themselves are fantastic quality and the friendly local community is exactly what we were searching for. Our building is also very eco-friendly. Solar panels and smart metres mean lower energy bills. It is also conveniently located near supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s and Aldi, as well as schools and public transport.”
Southmere offers great local amenities and connectivity
Initially faced with some resistance from their teenage daughters who were reluctant to leave their friends behind, the family are loving life at Southmere. Homes are set alongside Southmere Lake, which is being revitalised with a £2.5m renovation plan to include a new fishing platform and more habitat created for local wildlife. Bobby explains: “I asked Vida and Tina if they’d like to go back now and their answer was a resounding ‘NO’. It’s a beautiful place and it didn’t take them long before they were settled.
Tina attends the local secondary school and Vida has an easy journey to college in central London. Abbey Wood station is a short walk away and the Elizabeth Line takes her to college in just 20 minutes. Residents can also travel to Canary Wharf in just 11 minutes, Liverpool Street in 17 minutes and Tottenham Court Road in 23 minutes on the state-of-the-art London Underground route.
Peabody New Homes offers new build homes that are hassle free
“We wanted a home that was hassle free, so it made sense to only look at new-build apartments. It feels great to be actually paying our own mortgage now, rather than someone else’s. Renting is money down the drain. Last year my landlord renewed his mortgage, with my money. We looked at 11 homes in total and we lost money after putting down deposits on two of them and then changing our minds. They just didn’t feel right for a number of reasons. Once we saw what Peabody New Homes had created here at Southmere, there was no doubt whatsoever.”
When buying a home that has already been lived in, renovations can be needed. This is why many buyers opt for new build homes only. At Peabody New Homes, we create homes that are built to high standards when it comes to being eco-friendly, energy-efficient and comfortable to live in.
Bobby, Farideh and their daughters have found more than a place to live at Southmere
After renting in Chingford for three years, Bobby and Farideh and their two daughters, Vida and Tina, have settled in nicely in their two-bedroom home at our Southmere development. A frustrating year-long search ended with success when the family discovered the regenerated pocket of south east London.
“I know London really well and Thamesmead is an exceptional area. The neighbourhood was very important to us. We wanted to be part of a friendly community and the new impressive facilities here coupled with the shared green and blue spaces have attracted a brilliant group of residents. Everyone here’s been so welcoming and Tina in particular has made so many new friends. The outdoor space here means there’s plenty for them all to do and the local kids have already taught Tina to skateboard. There’s such a lovely mix of people here and we couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.”
